(NEXSTAR) – More than half a million Subaru drivers are being hit with a recall after the automaker discovered several models were manufactured with an incorrect label. At least in this case, the fix is easy.

The recall impacts four Subaru models, according to a notice posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

  • Subaru Ascent, years 2019-2026
  • Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid, 2026
  • Subaru Forester, years 2025-2026
  • Subaru Forester Hybrid, 2025-2026

The problem with the 541,237 recalled vehicles is they were manufactured with an incorrect Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) label, meaning they don’t comply with federal safety standards. The incorrect label could also lead drivers to overload their vehicles, which increases the risk of a crash, according to the NHTSA.

If your Subaru is one of those impacted by the recall, fear not. There’s a pretty simple fix: Subaru will mail you a corrected label for free. You can also take your car to the dealer and they can put the corrected label on for free.

Letters alerting owners of the issue are set to go out on Aug. 25, followed by another letter once the fix is available.

Subaru owners with questions can contact the company at 1-844-373-6614.

The Subaru recall is just the latest in a string of issues impacting vehicles in the U.S. Kia announced last week it was recalling 463,000 Telluride SUVs due to a fire risk. Two weeks ago, Ford announced 741,00 vehicles were being recalled over a transmission problem.
