Offset sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the shooting outside the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, on Monday. Local police have not formally charged anyone with the shooting.
However, fellow rapper Lil Tjay, born Tione Jayden Merritt, was arrested on Tuesday in connection to the incident. The 24-year-old was detained at the scene and charged with disorderly conduct. Merritt was released from custody that same day, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
His attorney, Dawn M. Florio, labeled online speculation that Merritt had further involvement in the shooting as “false” and “baseless rumors.” “Lil Tjay been [not] charged with any shooting,” she said in a statement. “Any reporting to the contrary is false,” Florio continued. “We encourage people to consult trusted news sources, and to verify the accuracy of any reporting.”
The Seminole Police Department has said an investigation is ongoing.
Offset and Merritt have history. In January 2025, Merritt accused Offset of having an out-of-control gambling habit, claiming the Migos rapper was “broke” and owed him $10,000 after he spotted him some cash. “I’ll tell y’all a true story, I seen the n**** in the casino. He was popped, he was panicking,” Merritt said in an Instagram Live. “He was asking random people for cash apps.”
