Gilbert detailed the saga in an Instagram post from Monday, where he wrote that his “recovery has been bumpy at times,” but he’s “feeling much better now and getting stronger by the day.”
Back in February, Gilbert said, he was playing a show in Nashville when he noticed he was “struggling to control the movements” of his left hand, meanwhile his left leg “was getting weaker,” causing him to stumble and fall at times. A few days later, he got a CT scan, which revealed the three new brain tumors.
Gilbert — who’s dealt with a variety of medical issue over the years — underwent surgery on Feb. 27 and said he’s been recovering in the hospital ever since. (His Instagram post included a series of photos from his stay.) Explaining his condition, Gilbert quoted his radiation oncologist: “This is not a fatal blow and not the end of your story, just the beginning of a new chapter.”
The guitarist continued, “Thankful to everyone who’s checked in on me and helped my family during this lengthy and challenging journey. Can’t use my phone much yet and have a lot of messages to catch up on. More stories to come when my brain is working well again. Love you all and am looking forward to sharing more music and fun with you as we come out of this.”
