Neve Campbell will return as Sidney Prescott in Scream 8.

Campbell confirmed to the Associated Press Monday night that she will reprise the role as horror’s iconic final girl for the eighth installment of the franchise. While discussing her upcoming projects, the actress revealed that she has two shows in development, one of which she has sold, in addition to “Scream 8 — that’s in the pipeline as well.”

“I can never tell you anything about Scream 8,” she said when asked to share more. Though she added with a laugh, “I’ll be in it!”

Campbell has been a central figure in the franchise since the original 1996 film. She starred in the first four films of Wes Craven’s series before the franchise was revamped with Scream (2022), which followed the Carpenter sisters played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega. Campbell appeared in a smaller role.

She notably sat out of Scream VI over salary disputes. Following the sixth film’s release, Barrera was fired from the franchise over her social media posts on the Israel-Hamas war. Ortega then exited the series voluntarily.

Campbell returned for Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures‘ Scream 7, released in February, which centered on Sidney and her onscreen daughter Tatum (Isabel May). The film became the highest-grossing installment, earning $208 million worldwide on a $45 million budget.

A month after the film’s release, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Scream 8 was in development at Spyglass, with sisters Lilla and Nora Zuckerman writing the script.

Kevin Williamson, who penned the original 1996 film and directed Scream 7, told Hello Sidney in March that he does not intend to write or direct the eighth film.

“I want to direct another film that I had written that is just waiting for me to find the time to direct. And right now, I’m working on a couple TV shows that I’m really excited about. So maybe I’ll direct one of those — who knows? For the next Scream, I’ll probably step back and just be a part of the family again,” he said.
