If only Daejon Love worked as hard at running routes as he did scamming women, maybe he would have actually made the league. Probably not though — and if he had, we wouldn’t have a potential all-time-great Untold installment to look forward to.

The next documentary in Netflix‘s excellent Untold film series will zone in on Love, who scammed women out of money while posing as a wideout with the San Francisco 49ers, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. Untold: Wide Deceiver (good one) will be “told firsthand from those affected by the scam,” we’re untold, unpacking “the viral nickname and the far darker story it exposed.”

On Aug. 24, 2026, Love was arrested for wire fraud after a group of women, his alleged victims, came forward to law enforcement. Prior to Love’s arrest, numerous social media videos, photos and DMs sent from Love to women and businesses touting his status as a Niners receiver went viral, including one of Love running routes and catching balls on a beach with a 49ers helmet on. (He pretty much always had that helmet with him.)

Another popular post was a photo of a San Francisco jersey #7 (Love’s fake number) cake he said the Niners sent him on his birthday. (San Francisco has a real wide receiver who wears #7: De’Zhaun Stribling changed his jersey number from 15 in the preseason, when Love’s scamming made headlines, to 7 in the regular season. It was a good play as sales of the 49ers #7 jersey began to take off right around the same time.)

Love’s DMs to businesses would often ask for outlandish treatment including free goods and services and for the company to provide a personal security detail.

The Love Untold does not yet have a director or a participant list, but a source close to production says it will focus on the women and their stories. (So, probably no Daejon himself.)

Untold: Wide Deceiver hails from Propagate and Stardust Frames in association with North of Now and The Cut. Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, Maclain Way, Chapman Way, Ryan Duffy, Isabel San Vargas, Aaron Ginsburg, William Green, Andrew Renzi and Nick Boak are executive producers.

The Way Brothers are creators of the Untold series, which “dives deep into the extraordinary and the wide (and wild) world of sports,” as described by Netflix. “These gripping, character-driven stories feature raw, first-person perspectives from those at the heart of the action — revealing the determination, setbacks, and surprising truths that unfold behind the scenes.”
