A new action thriller feature is ready to hit the ground running at Netflix.

The streamer has scooped up the spec script for Run the Football from writing team Josh Marentette and Spencer Marentette, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Producing the project are Dylan Clark and Brian Williams for Dylan Clark Productions, along with Jaume Collet-Serra and Max Jacoby for Jadis Collective.

Plot details for Run the Football are being kept under wraps, but sources describe it as a nuclear weapons thriller that involves Air Force One going down. The project was set up in a competitive situation, with numerous interested producers.

Josh and Spencer Marentette are brothers from Canada who previously sold their original action pitch Wheels of War to Amazon with Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society producing.

Clark, Williams and Collet-Serra teamed for Netflix’s hit 2024 action thriller Carry-On that starred Taron Egerton, Jason Bateman, Sofia Carson and Danielle Deadwyler. Collet-Serra directed and executive produced the film that focused on Egerton as an inexperienced TSA agent who ends up in a battle of wits with a mysterious traveler (Bateman) after the stranger blackmails him into allowing a dangerous package onto a flight on Christmas Eve.

The movie, which counted Clark as producer and saw Williams executive producing, ranks as Netflix’s third-most-watched original feature ever. THR’s review deemed it “a satisfying surveillance thriller.”

Clark returns as producer for director Matt Reeves’ forthcoming The Batman: Part II, which Warner Bros. releases theatrically in 2027. Starring Robert Pattinson as the titular DC Comics superhero, the 2022 original surpassed $770 million worldwide.

The Marentettes are represented by UTA and Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment.
