Netflix is expanding its immensely popular One Piece franchise with a Lego animated special and also offered new details and updates on season 3 of the main live-action series, the hotly anticipated anime series from Japan’s Wit Studio, as well as a new podcast and merch.
On a big day for One Piece news, Netflix revealed the title of season three of the mainline live-action series will be The Battle of Alabasta and it will arrive in 2027.
Season two of the show ended with Luffy and the Straw Hat crew heading to the desert kingdom of Alabasta, Princess Vivi’s homeland. The third season will deal with a rebellion that threatens to tear Alabasta apart, fueled in secret by one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, the ruthless Sir Crocodile, and his underground syndicate Baroque Works, who seek to conquer the kingdom for themselves. Netflix’s description of the season reads: “In a season defined by unbreakable bonds and impossible choices, the Straw Hats must face a brewing civil war and a powerful warlord to save Vivi’s kingdom before it crumbles into the sand. Fans can look forward to formidable new enemies and brand-new worlds where the stakes have never been higher.”

‘One Piece: The Battle of Alabasta’ title card. Netflix “The Alabasta saga is one of the best-loved stories in all of One Piece — and one of our personal favorite arcs — so it’s a huge honor to bring it to life,” said Joe Tracz and Ian Stokes, One Piece live-action series co-showrunners, in a statement. “Season Three builds on everything we’ve done before to tell a war story that’s epic and emotional, spectacular and surprising. We can’t wait for fans to join us in Alabasta, where the stakes are high… and the ducks are big.”
One Piece has been a huge success for Netflix and become something of a global phenomenon for the streamer. According to the company, season 2 of the live-action series debuted at and remains #1 on the Netflix Global Top 10 list and it currently enjoys a 100 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Buoyed by the success, the streamer is expanding the franchise with a new animated special, Lego One Piece. In a Netflix first, the two-part animated special, which premiere’s on Sept. 29, is produced in partnership with the Lego Group, Shueisha and Atomic. The special will retell the events of the first two seasons of the live-action One Piece series in that familiar comedic Lego way. The streamer hopes it will hook new fans as well as entertain committed Nakamans.

Netflix Fans of traditional Japanese anime will soon be able to feast on a new One Piece series from Netflix, and the renowned Wit Studio (Attack on Titan, Great Pretender, Ranking of Kings and Spy × Family). First announced back in 2024, The One Piece anime series has had few updates until today, with Netflix revealing art work and teaser. The series is currently in production in collaboration with Shueisha, Toei Animation and Fuji Television Network, and is a reimagining of the Eiichiro Oda’s iconic East Blue saga.

Looking to really lean into the global success of One Piece, Netflix is offering fans even more off screen with a new digital hub on both its Tudum.com fandom site and on the streaming platform as well as related experiences found at Netflix House locations. There will also be content provided on major audio streaming services including an official companion podcast.
Netflix is also ramping up the One Piece merch with toys, collectibles, and lifestyle collaborations coming from the likes of Moose Toys, NERF, Quiksilver, Funko, Netflix Shop, Penguin Random House, Hot Topic and Primark. The company also says Lego sets inspired by season 2 are on the way.
