The Boys alum Rebecca Sonnenshine serves as the showrunner for the series, which is based on the beloved books of the same name and follows the Ingalls family as they discover life on the prairie. “Part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale, and part origin story of the American West, this fresh adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s iconic semi-autobiographical Little House books offers a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier,” the show’s synopsis reads.
Alice Halsey leads the series as Laura Ingalls. Luke Bracey will play the Ingalls family patriarch, Charles Ingalls, while Crosby Fitzgerald is set to play the family’s matriarch, Caroline Ingalls. Skywalker Hughes will play Mary Ingalls.
The Netflix adaptation of the popular novels, first published in the 1930s, is produced by CBS Studios and Anonymous Content. The streamer greenlit the series after several years of development by Anonymous Content and what was then Paramount TV Studios. The books also served as a source material for the popular NBC drama of the same name, which ran from 1974-83 on the broadcast network.
Sonnenshine is executive producing alongside Joy Gorman Wettels for Joy Coalition, Trip Friendly for Friendly Family Productions and Dana Fox. Sarah Adina Smith, Julie Anne Robinson, Kat Candler, Erica Tremblay, Sydney Freeland each direct at least one episode of the series.
