By order of Netflix, there’s a new Peaky Blinders series coming. Two, actually.

The original Peaky Blinders, a BBC series, did very well on the global streaming service — so well that Netflix greenlit an original film to serve as its sequel. The two new series are set 10 years after Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, itself set six years after the conclusion of the first series.

The new shows are getting a new Duke Shelby: Jamie Bell (pictured above, left) will take the role over from The Immortal Man‘s Duke, Barry Keoghan (right), who is probably just too busy (and/or too big a rising star). News of the new series — and of the new Duke — came all of 13 days after Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man debuted on Netflix. It preceded the streaming debut with a two-week run in movie theaters.

Charlie Heaton (Industry) will fight alongside Bell/Duke in this next-gen Peaky gang. Jessica Brown Findlay, Lashana Lynch and Lucy Karczewski are also confirmed for the cast; their roles will be specified at a later date, Netflix said.

“In this new era of Peaky Blinders, a decade after World War Two, the race to rebuild Birmingham becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions,” the news series’ logline reads. “This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and jeopardy. At its blood-soaked heart is Duke Shelby: older, wiser, more ambitious and most certainly more dangerous.”

This Duke is also about an inch shorter, if you believe everything you read online.

Duke Shelby is the bastard, gypsy son of Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy), the former leader of the Peaky Blinders who (spoiler alert!) is killed in the movie. Bell is seven years older than Keoghan.

“I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 50s,” Steven Knight, the creator and writer behind the series and film, said in a statement. “We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have the incredible Charlie Heaton also leading the cast. There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and Peaky is on the road again.”

The new series will be filmed in Birmingham.
