(NEXSTAR) – Brittany Boltinhouse, who was crowned as Miss North Carolina USA just over a month ago, has been stripped of her title after a review of “recently surfaced information,” pageant organizers say.

The news was shared Tuesday in separate statements from A Blaize Productions, which produces the Miss USA North Carolina pageant, and Thom Brodeur, the president and CEO of the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA organizations.

Brodeur said a statement from Boltinhouse was forthcoming as well.

A Blaize Productions did not detail the “recently surfaced information” that prompted the decision to remove Boltinhouse from her title. But in Brodeur’s statement, he appeared to indicate incidents of discriminatory actions or statements.

“The Miss USA organization does not tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia nor language that strips any person of their dignity — whoever they are,” Brodeur’s statement reads, in part.

“A title here isn’t a trinket. It is a position of trust, extended by an organization and accepted by a woman who agrees to carry a standard in public,” Brodeur’s statement goes on to say. “When that standard is broken, the title cannot continue as though nothing happened.”

Brodeur added that Boltinhouse’s removal was not prompted by a single offense, but rather “conduct over an extended period of time.”

He did, however, urge followers not to respond to the news with “cruelty” toward Boltinhouse, and wished her well.

“I believe the best you have to offer this world is ahead of you,” he wrote, “and that is a promise worth making and keeping for yourself.”

Boltinhouse, from Duplin County, North Carolina, won the Miss North Carolina USA pageant on June 28, 2026. Speaking with The Duplin Times after her win, she said she entered the pageant — her first ever — to get in touch with her femininity after starting a flooring business with her husband.

“I’m in such a male-dominated field that it didn’t allow me to be girly,” she told the outlet.

Boltinhouse, who was 27 when she won the crown, was slated to compete in the upcoming Miss USA pageant at the end of August. North Carolina will now be represented by Myla Hadley, who was crowned in Boltinhouse’s stead.

“I understand the seriousness and level of prestige that this title carries, and I can confidently say that both my team and I are ready to take this on,” Hadley wrote on Instagram.
