When Miranda Priestly delivered that — yes — devilish dressing down of Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada, she couldn’t have possibly predicted that her words would one day come back to haunt her.
That iconic speech about the cerulean blue sweater, which Meryl Streep’s Priestly implied that Anne Hathaway’s Andy “no doubt, fished out of some clearance bin,” is suddenly on everyone’s minds again, as The Devil Wears Prada 2 stomps into theaters next month and 20th Century Studios launches new movie merch… on Amazon?
Yes, the mass retailer has an official Devil Wears Prada merch shop, with T-shirts, tote bags, novelty mugs and accessories inspired by quotable lines from the first film and new motifs from the upcoming sequel. While it’s an easy way for fans to grab some branded merch or apparel, the decision for the film studio to partner with Amazon (along with another fast fashion collab with Target) begs the question: did they fall down and smack their little heads on the pavement?

The new partnerships are seemingly the exact thing the original film — and Streep’s character — was deriding: an idea of castaway costumes that have little regard for actual craftsmanship or composition, “filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic casual corner,” or well.. onto Amazon.com.
The irony is not lost on us that these “print on demand” products are the exact items Miranda Priestly would’ve likely pursed her lips at, but as a way to appeal to the wider fandom — I.e. those who can’t afford the Chanel boots — we suppose the Amazon and Target releases represent a little bit of aesthetic accessibility. While the first Prada film positioned the fashion world as a haughty insiders club, the sequel’s merch collection seems to promote expression over exclusivity. All of the Amazon pieces are available in dozens of colors, graphics and sizes, letting the customer customize just what they want — and how they want to wear it.
And while a million girls would’ve killed for Andy’s job in the original film, with the new Devil Wears Prada merch collection on Amazon, a million girls can actually get their hands on one of the pieces in time for the sequel.
Here’s a look at what’s available from the official Devil Wears Prada 2 merch and clothing collections on Amazon and Target.

Devil Wears Prada Character Graphic Cardigan
$30 Buy Now AT TARGETWell, this movie-inspired cardigan is actually made from a polyester blend, but it’s a great pick-up for fans of the film to wear to the office or as a light layering piece. The classic fit cardigan features with a red stiletto heel logo on the front and an illustration of Miranda, Emily and Andy on the back, accompanied by the text, “Everybody Wants To Be Us.” The cardigan buttons up with front snaps and features a regular fit. Devil Wears Prada ‘Not Just Blue’ Graphic Tank
$14.99 Buy Now AT TARGETPerhaps the biggest example of a jumped the shark moment is this Target tank top, which features Miranda’s now-infamous quote about how fashion choices are made. The irony of this racerback tank? It’s not turquoise, it’s not lapis but it’s not cerulean blue either. Target sells the top in a faded “heather blue” colorway. Not wonderful.
