Courtesy of Mert Alas Miley Cyrus is setting off her new era with the release of the single and video for “Bass Persuades,” the title track off her upcoming 10th album.
“Bass Persuades” goes full dance-pop with tinges of ’80s synths and a spoken-word first verse that recalls the deadpan delivery of Lady Gaga on “Poker Face.” “Step into the scene you won’t catch an eye / Walk into the party like the party is mine,” she commands. “Paving over pastures ’cause horses are gone / Forgetting there’s a world when this is record is on.” The record decidedly guns for the dance floor, not far off from the spirit of “Something Beautiful” cuts “Walk of Fame” or “Every Girl You’ve Ever Loved.”
