Rep. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.) joked about President Trump backing both Republican runoff candidates to be her state’s governor.
Mace, who made her own bid for South Carolina governor this year, on Saturday replied to a Truth Social post from the president backing both candidates on the social platform X by saying, “LMAO,” using a common abbreviation for the phrase “laughing my a– off.”
On Friday, Trump gave a rare dual endorsement for both Republican contenders in the race for the Palmetto State’s governor. The president originally placed his full backing behind the state’s Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette for the Republican nomination.
Evette placed first in the primary election earlier this month, garnering 29 percent of the vote. However, it was not enough to avoid a runoff against South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson.
Trump said in a Friday post on Truth Social that he was “hoping” the two candidates would advance and announced that he would also support Wilson for the nomination.
“I can’t hurt one of them by only Endorsing the other, so therefore, I am going to Endorse, for Governor of South Carolina, both Pam Evette and Alan Wilson!” he wrote. “It’s a Wealth of Riches – With either one you can’t go wrong.”
Mace only garnered 12.23 percent of the vote in the primary, coming in fifth place in the Republican primary, according to Decision Desk HQ.
