President Trump has a busy schedule on Tuesday. To start the day, he’s set to meet with Ukrainian President Zelensky then Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu at the White House.
Trump’s relationship with Zelensky has warmed in recent weeks. Over the weekend, the Ukrainian leader noted his military attacked a Russian ship in the Caspian Sea that was aiding Iran.
The meeting between Trump and Netanyahu will be the first at the White House since before the Iran war started in February. The U.S. military has paused its attacks on Iran since Saturday, allowing time for negotiations.
Tuesday afternoon, he’ll join lawmakers and world leaders in attending a funeral for the late Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-S.C.) at the Washington National Cathedral.
Last week, South Carolina Sen. Tim Scott (R) said at a press conference that the details of the day were hard to plan. “The funeral arrangements have been complicated by the fact that so many global leaders would like to attend,” he said.
Tuesday is also the filing cutoff for Graham’s GOP replacement in the August special GOP primary ahead of the November general election. Many Republicans have tossed in their names, including Graham’s sister, Sen. Darline Graham (R-S.C.), who is carrying out his term through January 2027.
While the Senate is not in session most of Tuesday, friction is building between Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) and Trump, along with some Republicans, over how to handle passage of the SAVE America Act. Several have suggested skipping August recess to work on it, though Thune maintains it lacks support for passage.
