President Trump’s inquiry with FIFA President Gianni Infantino into the penalty drawn by Team USA player Folarin Balogun has caused a furor in the soccer world, just ahead of the huge round of 16 matchup between Team USA and Belgium.

FIFA’s independent board reversed the red card suspension of Balogun on Sunday, after which it was revealed that Trump had made an inquiry to Infantino, who he has appeared with repeatedly over the last year.

Belgium and a number of other figures in the beautiful game have blasted the decision, and questioned corruption in the game. Europe’s soccer federation called the move “incomprehensible.”

The U.S. faces Belgium at 8 p.m. Monday night in Seattle.

Trump Accounts, the investment accounts created by the One Big Beautiful Bill, opened for investing on Saturday and will have a formal launch Monday morning from the White House. To celebrate, President Trump gathered with stock market leadership and rang the opening bell.

Coming off a holiday weekend celebrating America’s 250th anniversary, Trump’s week has a global focus. He’ll head to Ankara, Turkey, late Monday for the NATO Summit. He’s expected to have bilateral meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa, both slated for Wednesday.

A five-day preliminary hearing starts Monday in Utah in the murder case of Charlie Kirk. Prosecutors will present the case’s evidence so far, pressing for a trial. For the first time in the case, Kirk’s parents and widow will be in the courtroom with defendant Tyler Robinson.

Congress is on recess this week. But House Speaker Mike Johnson is readying for battle next week over the SAVE America Act, which he says he’ll try to pass through reconciliation.
