Lions player Arnold charged with leading kidnap plot and armed robbery

Detroit Lions cornerback Terrion Arnold has been charged with leading a plot to kidnap and pistol-whip three people he believed had stolen from him.

Arnold, 23, who has also been charged with armed robbery, could face up to life in prison if found guilty.

Three men in their late teens were held at gunpoint, struck and robbed at an apartment in Tampa, Florida on February 4 of this year, said police, who claim Arnold was the "primary conspirator".

That incident occurred three days after possessions worth over $250,000 (approx £189,400) were reportedly stolen from Arnold and others at a rental property in Largo, around 20 miles west of Tanpa.

Investigators said the victims had nothing to do with the theft.

Arnold, who turned himself in on Wednesday, briefly appeared in court by video as a judge announced the charges.

He will remain in jail until at least a detention hearing on Monday.
