Kylie Minogue addressed an ongoing rumor that she will feature on Madonna‘s new album, Confessions II. The Queen of Pop will release her 15th studio LP, a companion piece to 2005’s Confessions on a Dance Floor, on July 3 and fans have speculated that it will include a collaboration between the two singers.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times about her new Netflix documentary, Kylie, Minogue said, “That’s a random thing. There was a rumor I was on her album, but I’m not — I’m excited to hear it, all.”

Minogue did confirm, however, that she is making new music. “There’s a new song called ‘Light Up’ that lives perfectly within the documentary,” she said. “It’s not a ‘Padam,’ but it’s got a lot of heart.”

She explained of the inspiration behind “Light Up”: “Initially, I was thinking about my mom, ‘cause you can see in this documentary — don’t make me cry — I love her so much. I was writing about when you’re struggling, whether you’re a child or a grown-up, and someone who loves you will look into your eyes and, like a manga cartoon, you kind of zoom in and you see this world of possibility. When you’re lost, helpless or glassy-eyed, someone who can see in you what you can’t see can light you up, and you can get through that moment.”

She added, “You can get out on stage and do that thing that you’re supposed to do when everything feels like you couldn’t do it, so it’s like parental love, friendship love, can spread to audience love. Because they will give you the strength to go out and have those moments to share. It’s a beautiful thing.”

In 2024, Minogue and Madonna appeared on stage together at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles during Madonna’s Celebration. They performed duets of Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” and Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” for International Women’s Day.
