(NEXSTAR) – Kelsey Grammer says his political aspirations may manifest “in some way” in the coming years.

Speaking with Us Weekly, the former “Frasier” and “Cheers” actor claimed that he would consider a run for political office, in part over a duty he feels he owes the country.

“It would possibly tick that box for me, in terms of the service I feel I should have given to my fellow man — to my fellow countrymen — that I missed in the military,” Grammer told Us Weekly. “Maybe that would be the way to do it. I have wrestled with it.”

Grammer, 71, went on to say that he might wait until his youngest children are older if he were to run for public office. But he doesn’t consider his own age to be a hindrance.

“I’m vital and prepared to stay that way for quite a while, and yes, it’s likely I will at least throw my hat in the ring in some way,” he told the outlet.

Grammer has discussed the possibility of a political career in the past, telling Fox News’ Sean Hannity and Alan Colmes in 2003 that he would consider it “later in my life” and possibly envisioning himself as a senator. He’s also publicly supported President Donald Trump, whom he once called “maybe the greatest” president in a 2025 interview with Fox News.

Grammer, who is promoting his new movie “Young Washington,” also met with Trump at the Oval Office on Thursday, where the pair “talked politics and their families, along with the movie,” according to sources for Deadline.

After the meeting, a reporter for Scripps asked Grammer to comment on Trump’s efforts toward “bipartisanship.” Grammer responded by saying he believes the president “celebrates … the American experiment, which is honestly a story of two sides bashing heads all the time and finally coming out with some kind of middle ground that works for everybody.”

“It was fantastic today,” Grammer remarked of their Oval Office conversation. “Just effervescent. Fun. We traded some old war stories about our lives, our personal lives, our wives and our families. It was really nice to see him.”
