The 41-year-old singer wore Stella McCartney, sporting a satin gown with a train, which was cut from Italian deadstock satin. The fabric was “woven in forest-friendly viscose and repurposed from surplus Italian tailoring fabrics,” according to a release.
The centerpiece of Perry’s look, however, was a chrome-painted mask; it’s unclear if the mask is also from the designer. It appeared to be inspired by a fencing mask. It sparked plenty of conversation on social media as soon as photos started to surface. On the carpet, the singer popped the mask open for photos.

Last year, Perry went viral during fashion’s biggest night despite not even being there. In the thick of the red carpet, photos of the singer were spreading on social media, decked out in an on-theme gown. They seemed real to plenty of the internet, including Perry’s own mother, apparently — at least according to the photos Perry herself posted. “
Couldn’t make it to the Met, had to work,” Perry posted in the caption of her Instagram with the fake red carpet photos and a take from her mother commenting on what she believed to be her daughter’s real red carpet look. “Lol mom the AI got you, too, BEWARE,” the pop singer wrote back to her mother in the text.

The 2026 Met Gala is being co-chaired by Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, are honorary chairs, which has caused a stir of controversy leading up to fashion’s biggest night.
This year’s host committee includes Anthony Vaccarello, Zoë Kravitz, Adut Akech, Angela Bassett, Sinéad Burke, Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Gwendoline Christie, Misty Copeland, Alex Consani, Elizabeth Debicki, Lena Dunham, Paloma Elsesser, Rebecca Hall, Blackpink’s Lisa, Chloe Malle, Aimee Mullins, Amy Sherald, Tschabalala Self, Sam Smith, Teyana Taylor, Anna Weyant, Lauren Wasser, A’ja Wilson, Chase Sui Wonders and Yseult.
