Jon Stewart on 'The Daily Show' Courtesy of Comedy Central Jon Stewart took aim at Donald Trump‘s recent attack on the media on the latest episode of The Daily Show. The White House banned several major outlets, including CNN, MS Now, and Politico, from the press pool over the weekend, leading to plans for a lawsuit that was announced on Monday morning.
“As many of you have heard, if you’ve been following the news, the hottest spot in D.C. has just changed their door policy,” Stewart recounted during his monologue. He then played a clip of Trump saying it’s “sick” that a country allowed its press to write “purposefully negative stories.”
“Have you tried president-ing better?” Stewart responded. “You could. But no. You could ban the press or you could be a better fucking president. Give the press something to work with. Oh, here’s a positive story: I never thought my car could take $140 worth of gas in such a small tank. I had no idea!”
He added, “And not for nothing, have we ever had a president, just flat out in the Oval Office, come out against the Constitution? … He gives no fucks. He doesn’t even respect us enough to pretend he’s bound by our Constitution.”
Stewart acknowledged that Trump’s press ban means that not only has he betrayed his “sacred oath of office,” but he’s now also subjected “all of us to endless building entrance logistics stories.” The host played a clip of multiple reporters discussing their inability enter the White House and the issues with their badges. Stewart then brought in The Daily Show‘s senior White House correspondent Desi Lydic, who infiltrated the Oval Office despite the ban.
Stewart swapped to another big story, the possible AI doomsday, for the remainder of his monologue. “Okay fuck the press,” he said. “Shifting gears.” He added, “I can’t believe AI is already freer than we are.”
