‘John Wick’ Spinoff ‘Caine’ Adds Bill Nighy (Exclusive)

British actor Bill Nighy has signed on for a role in Caine, Lionsgate’s John Wick spinoff being directed by martial arts master Donnie Yen.

Yen, who appeared as the titular blind assassin in John Wick: Chapter 4, is also toplining the feature, which is now in production in Budapest and Hong Kong.

Also on the call sheet are Mason Thames (The Black Phone) and Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things) as well as Rina Sawayama, who is reprising her role as Akira, who in Wick 4 worked in the hitman hotel that was overrun by assassins and blamed Caine for the death of her father.

Mattson Tomlin, writer of the upcoming The Batman Part II and the adaptation of the Keanu Reeves-created comic book BRZRKR, wrote the script with Michael McGrale.

The story follows the events of Wick 4, with Caine having been freed from his obligations to The High Table, the council that runs a global empire controlled by the elite crime families. But, guess what? Just when he thought he was out…

Producing the feature are Wick stalwarts Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee of Thunder Road shingle, and John Wick filmmaker Chad Stahelski, who produces through his 87Eleven Entertainment production banner. John Wick himself, Keanu Reeves is also producing as is John Saunders will also produce.

Yen is an executive producer on the project along with Courtney Brock.

Nighy is one of the more recognizable British thespians of stage and screen known for his breakout work in Love Actually, romantic drama About Time, and the Underworld movies. This summer he will be seen in the series Ride or Die opposite Octavia Spencer and Hannah Waddingham and will star opposite Helena Bonham Carter in Hugo Blick’s California Avenue for the BBC.

He is repped by UTA, Independent Talent Group and Jackoway Austen.
