Jerry Weintraub’s Treasures Up for Auction: ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ Memorabilia, Artwork and Golden Globe

Jerry Weintraub had one of those larger than life Hollywood careers that spanned 50 years and saw the late and legendary producer leave his mark across movies, television, music and sports while working with some of the most famous names of each industry. Mementos, memorabilia and treasures from Weintraub’s unique life will soon be hitting the auction block courtesy of Julien’s Auctions and Turner Classic Movies.

A sampling: Autographed scripts, wardrobe, a Faberge egg and a signed casino table from the Ocean’s Eleven franchise, Muhammad Ali’s signed boxing gloves, the racket Rod Laver used to win the U.S. Open, Robert Altman’s Nashville script, and a Golden Glove Weintraub won for producing Behind the Candelabra. The two day event, titled “Jerry Weintraub, The Consummate Producer,” is set for May 5-6, and will feature more than 800 lots on sale at Julien’s Studios in Gardena, Calif., and online. A sneak peek of the collection will be held during the TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood on April 30-May 3.

“Julien’s and TCM are proud to represent the legacy of Jerry Weintraub’s trailblazing career and his indelible impact on music, television, sports, movies and politics. He truly was the consummate producer,” praised Julien’s Auctions managing director of entertainment Catherine Williamson. “Whether it was setting the standard starting with Elvis and Frank Sinatra for today’s stadium arena tours to producing cultural milestones in film and television to power brokering in Hollywood to the White House for nearly half a century — Jerry Weintraub was a visionary force in show business who touched all corners of the world. Who else collaborated with George Clooney, Frank Sinatra, Elvis and Brad Pitt?”

Weintraub began his career as an agent, manager and concert promoter working with the likes of Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan, Dolly Parton, the Beach Boys, the Pointer Sisters and John Denver, the latter of whom he discovered, before segueing to film and TV. In fact, he produced one of Denver’s shows at which where he met filmmaker Robert Altman, who sent him a script for Nashville. The 1975 film got made and went on to receive five Academy Award nominations including one for best picture.

His auction will feature many film props and production items like a Faberge egg and pedestal from Ocean’s Twelve (estimate: $6,000–$8,000), a cast signed casino table from Ocean’s Thirteen (estimate: $3,000–$5,000), Ralph Fiennes’ suit, bowler hat and umbrella from The Avengers and a jumpsuit from The Karate Kid II.

Among the sports artifacts to be offered up are figure skates worn by Dorothy Hamill in the compulsory competition in the run up to her 1976 Olympic gold medal winning performance in Austria (estimate: $50,000-$70,000), a 1984 Olympic Torch (estimate: $2,000-$3,000), tennis rackets used by Jimmy Connors (estimate: $5,000-$7,000) and Rod Laver (estimate: $4,000-$6,000), and signed boxing gloves from Muhammad Ali (estimate: $1,000- $2,000).

On the music side, the auction will feature more than 60 gold and platinum record sales awards for work with Presley (“As Recorded at Madison Square Garden”), Denver (“An Evening with John Denver”), the Carpenters (“Live at the Palladium), Neil Diamond (“12 Greatest Hits Vol. 2’), Dylan (“Blood on the Tracks”) and the Ghostbusters movie soundtrack. Also offered: a Moody Blues signed tambourine, concept artwork for merchandise related to the band Three Dog Night, a George Strait gifted and signed Gibson Dove acoustic guitar (estimate: $5,000-$7,000), and a Bono signed black-and-white print titled “String of Pearls” with personal inscription reading, “Jerry for the greatest story teller in the world / Happy Birthday / Bono.”

On the personal side, items owned by Weintraub and former wife, Jane Morgan, at homes in Palm Springs and Beverly Hills will be auctioned including their art collection with works by Pablo Picasso, Gaston Sebire and Andy Warhol, furniture, decorative pieces and household items as well as Morgan’s collection of fine jewelry, vintage gowns and dresses. Also of note: inauguration items signed by longtime friend and confidant President George H.W. Bush.
