No sooner did Jennifer Lawrence join Instagram on Thursday then the Hollywood star threatened to quit if fans get toxic.

“So, yeah, I’m giving it a shot,” Lawrence said in a short video posted to the social media platform. But the Hollywood star, who goes by the handle @jlaw, sternly added: “And if anyone says anything negative, I will quit, immediately — no questions asked. If anyone thinks something mean, I’ll know, I’ll know. And I’ll quit.”

The Oscar winner has in the past made no secret of not being fond of talking with the press to tout her movies, much less have an official social media presence. Taking the leap onto the Meta-owned Instagram platform comes ahead of Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson, both known for their roles in Lionsgate‘s original Hunger Games films, getting set to appear in the forthcoming prequel movie The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.

Lawrence will reprise her role as Katniss Everdeen, while Hutcherson will return as Peeta Mellark, with the pair likely appearing in a flash-forward. Lionsgate plans to release Sunrise on the Reaping in theaters on Nov. 20, 2026.

Lawrence is also attached to star in and produce One Month Mark, a romantic comedy picked up by Apple Original Films and based on a script by playwright-writer-director Sophie Fleur de Bruijn.

Her decision to join Instagram also coincides with the social media platform‘s ongoing evolution including plans to allow viewers to watch videos on the big screen in their living room. Instagram is also experimenting with longer-form storytelling, episodic series with creators, and live TV-style creator experiences.
