Former special counsel Jack Smith has been invited to testify in late September in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said Monday.

“Im inviting Jack Smith 2 testify before Senate Judic Cmte on Sept 22,” Grassley, the chair of the committee said in a post on the social platform X Monday evening, with the invitation first reported by Politico. “American ppl deserve nothing less than full transparency+ accountability for Arctic Frost and special counsel lawfare.”

Grassley revealed in Oct. 2025 that Smith’s “Arctic Frost” probe focusing on attempts to overturn the 2020 election sought 10 GOP senators’ phone records, as well as the phone records of at least one member of the House.

The Iowa Republican said in mid-July that he had been notified by the Department of Justice (DOJ) that the former special counsel’s team “secretly obtained” lawmakers’ text messages as part of an investigation into President Trump.

According to Grassley, he was among 44 lawmakers whose communications with White House staff were reviewed amid investigations under the previous administration into Trump’s alleged role in the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot and classified documents discovered at a Mar-a-Lago.

Smith oversaw both cases that were later dropped in the wake of Trump’s election victory two years ago.

In January, Smith defended his efforts to prosecute Trump before the House Judiciary Committee, remaining steadfast that evidence gathered by his team found Trump had undertaken criminal activity.
