Hunter Biden, the son of former President Joe Biden, took a swipe at President Trump Monday, describing him as an “existential threat” to the U.S.
During an interview with conservative media personality Tucker Carlson, the former president’s son blamed wealthy tech leaders for the country’s current divide. He said Trump’s cordial relationships with people like Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, among others, have enticed tech companies to further his political agenda.
“And they build a tool, and they make more money by tearing people down. They make more money by dividing people,” Biden told Carlson. “They make more money, and so, they just let the algorithm roll, and it’s tearing us apart.”
“I am not this believer that Trump is merely the symptom of a disease. I believe that Trump is central to why this disease has gone from a local epidemic to a pandemic in the United States of America,” he added.
Democrats have broadly criticized corporate leaders’ involvement with the White House, as well as attempted to limit the accelerating spread of the tech industry. In June, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) said in an interview with Fox News that large tech companies are seeking “totally unchecked power” and should be split up.
The former president’s son has taken an active stance in the Democratic Party ahead of the 2026 midterms. Last week, Biden made headlines for his Friday appearance on BBC’s “Newsnight,” where he told the outlet that his father’s cancer had spread.
Biden also reflected on the presidential pardon his father granted him in 2024, ridding him of three felony charges, in his interview with the BBC. The president’s son told the outlet that he believes the move was “not good” for his father’s legacy.
Trump has remained a staunch critic of his predecessor’s son and family. In a Truth Social post following the pardon, the president called the decision “an abuse and miscarriage of justice.”
In his conversation with Carlson, Biden also commended former MAGA-aligned Republicans who have since strayed from the president — including Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) — and “woken up.”
