Twenty-six years ago, the US eliminated the measles virus. Measles is extremely contagious, and sporadic cases and outbreaks are expected.

But as of April 2026, Utah officials have reported a total of 602 measles cases in the state. Of those infected, 85% were not vaccinated against the virus.
