FIFA World Cup Clear Bag Policy: Here’s What You Can and Cannot Bring to the Stadium

The 2026 World Cup is here and fans heading to the soccer matches will want to pay attention to a few new rules and regulations before they enter the stadium.

What Is the World Cup Bag Policy?

FIFA has introduced its bag policy for the international soccer tournament, and as expected, it follows similar procedures to other sporting events and concerts. According to the FIFA website, only clear plastic, vinyl or see-through PVC bags will be allowed into the soccer games, with a maximum size of 12 x 12 x 6 inches.

FIFA says the clear bag policy is to “maintain a safe and efficient entry process,” letting security guards easily see what you’re bringing in through the doors.

Fans will be permitted to bring a small clutch or purse into the stadiums, and they don’t need to be clear or see-through. However, these bags (along with any large wallets or pouches) must be under 4.5 x 6.5 inches in size. Anything larger than that will likely be denied and you’ll need to check your purse into a locker before you enter.

Keep in mind that the size of an iPhone 17 Pro Max is 6.9 inches, so you’ll want to hold your phone separately. Any non-clear bag that can fit your cell phone is likely too big to pass through security.

Can You Bring Liquids to World Cup Matches?

As for what you’re allowed to carry in your bag? Makeup, sunscreen, hand sanitizer and other toiletries are allowed in, but they must not exceed 100ml in size. This is similar to current TSA regulations for carry-on luggage at the airport.

As for portable chargers, while power banks are allowed in with your bag, they must not exceed 4.7 inches x 6.7 inches in size. Security guards will also make sure your chargers are not prone to overheating, which could pose a fire or safety hazard.

Can You Bring Flags, Signs or Banners Into the World Cup?

While soccer matches are known for their frenzied crowds and fan participation, FIFA is clamping down on what you can bring into the stadium to cheer on your team. According to the FIFA site, small flags, banners and posters will be allowed into the stadium but they must be made of a “fire-resistant material” and be no larger that 60 x 78 inches in size.

It goes without saying that the items must also not have any lewd or offensive language written or displayed on them. Anything deemed offensive by stadium officials will be subject to removal, as will the person displaying the signage, so maybe don’t be an asshole and leave the taunting and foul language at home.

Another regulation worth noting: FIFA says any “electronic, mechanical or manual devices that produce noise or other excessively loud sounds” will not be permitted into the World Cup matches. That means you will not be allowed to bring in items like vuvuzelas, whistles, air horns, loudspeakers, etc. Leave those noisemakers at home and cheer your team on with your hands and voice instead.
