Transgender advocate and influencer Dylan Mulvaney on Sunday clapped back at President Trump’s mock comparison of her to CNN chief White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins during the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.
“Now, the president also brought up a video I did over three years ago, and mind you, I’ve been kind of flying under the radar, keeping up a pretty low profile, just like doing my little musicals, singing, dancing,” Mulvaney said in a video posted on Instagram.
“And yet, I am still his topic of conversation all these years later,” the influencer continued. “And it seems to me that I might be like the one that got away for these men. Like, I am permanently burned into their retinas. I am microchipped into their minds.”
Trump on Friday alluded to his long-standing feud with Collins and CNN during the dinner in a moment to praise Collins after she received an award for her coverage of his administration. He said she “never smiles,” a remark he has repeatedly made during his second term.
“I thought Kaitlan had really made it big with a major new sponsorship, but then I informed her that it wasn’t her on the Bud Light can, it was Dylan Mulvaney,” Trump said. “Dylan Mulvaney cost Bud Light $35 billion in market cap. That was the worst commercial ever made, by the way, for those few people who want to hear that. Most people don’t care, but I would. I wouldn’t want to hire Dylan any time soon.”
The line left much of the room silent.
In 2023, Mulvaney partnered with Bud Light on an Instagram ad that included her posing with a personalized beer can. Conservatives blasted the ad online, claiming it was pushing a supposed pro-LGBTQ agenda and calling for a boycott of the Anheuser-Busch-owned brand. She accused the company of not supporting her amid the backlash.
Mulvaney said in her Sunday video she was “incredibly honored to be compared” to Collins “in any way, and I hope that she keeps doing all the great work.” She noted that Trump’s remarks would have upset her more had she not been “ghosted last month by a hookup who I really liked.”
“What I realized from that experience was that I shouldn’t want to be with someone who doesn’t really want to be with me,” she said. “So maybe I shouldn’t want to be professionally supported by an administration that doesn’t personally support me or so many others in this country. Food for thought. In fact, maybe being publicly mocked and criticized by this administration is actually like the greatest compliment of all, because it puts me in the company of some of like the most brilliant, empathetic people in our world today.”
