ITVBelieve Me tells the story of the victims of one of the most prolific sex attackers in Britain and how they were failed by the systemA four-part drama showing the shocking crimes of John Worboys, known as the black cab rapist, was "an important, vital story to tell," said the actress who plays one of the victims.
Newport-born Aimée-Ffion Edwards, known for roles in Peaky Blinders and Skins, plays Sarah, in Believe Me, which tells the story of one of Britain's most prolific sex attackers and how the victims were failed by the Metropolitan Police.
The drama focuses on the traumas of Sarah and Laila (Aasiya Shah) who reported the crimes.
Worboys, 68, was jailed after being found guilty of 19 sex offences against 12 women in 2009. In 2019 he was sentenced to life with a minimum term of six years after more victims came forward.
In an interview with ITV, Edwards said she vaguely remembered the Worboys case but had a "visceral response" when reading the script.
"It just felt such an important, vital story to tell."
She said she hoped the series would encourage people to have conversations about how victims of sexual offences are treated.
"I hope the audience are ready to have more conversations about the way we treat victims of domestic abuse, sexual harassment and rape because there's a long way to go," she added.
ITVAimée-Ffion Edwards is best known for her role in BBC's Peaky Blinders, Channel 4's Skins and Apple TV's Slow HorsesThe series was mainly shot in Wales despite being set in London, with the majority of the drama filmed in Cardiff, but Newport, Penarth, Glyntaff, Swansea and Port Talbot all feature.
But parts were filmed in the English capital, like the opening scenes of the first episode featuring the London Eye.
