Like Minions supervillain Gru, on Sunday afternoon President Donald Trump attempted to steal the moon.

Among the barrage of AI slop polluting the president’s Truth Social timeline this weekend, Trump posted an image of the lunar landscape with the caption “THE MOON IS OURS 🇺🇲”

Trump has repeatedly suggested his intent to establish a permanent American presence on the Moon. Now he’s advanced to outright ownership, given that the United States was the first country to land on the satellite. The Moon is — to be clear — universal property belonging to all mankind and no individual nation. The United States signed a treaty agreeing to this in 1967.

The frenzy of posts did have a notable space theme. Trump shared images of supposed dress uniforms for the United States Space Force. Users on social media were quick to point out that the style looked suspiciously like the uniforms of the Galactic Empire in the Star Wars film series.

Trump also added to his fixation on renaming stuff to annoy his enemies, American trade partners/ allies, and the perceived sensibilities of liberals. The president proposed renaming the state of New Mexico to “New America.” Not clear what the logic is there.

He also touted his recent attempts to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America, comparing it to “the left” removing the names of Confederate generals from military bases or removing racist and stereotypical mascots from sports teams and branding.

Amid an ongoing trade war he started with our allies to the north, Trump decided now would be a good time to troll Canadian Prime Minister, Mark Carney. He fired up a hockey meme of him dominating Carney on the ice and again seemed to call for the country to become the 51st state.

Perhaps to counter balance the bullying vibes, the White House posted another AI meme of Trump as the D.C. superhero Green Lantern. No mention was made of diesel fuel prices reaching well over $5 a gallon across the country.
