Sycamore Studios Get ready to talk to the animals! Sycamore Studios has announced that production is underway on “Doctor Dolittle: King of the Wild.” The new feature film is based on Hugh Lofting’s literary property and will be animated in partnership with Reel FX Animation Studios. Per the official description, “Doctor Dolittle is a world-famous zoologist who must clear his name after a live-streamed expedition accidentally delivers a legendary creature into the hands of poachers. With the world turning against him, Dolittle needs to reunite with three estranged zoo friends for a daring rescue mission that could save the entire animal kingdom.” “Doctor Dolittle: King of the Wild” is the first feature release from Sycamore Studios and will be directed by co-founder and chief creative officer Timothy Reckart, who previously directed Sony’s “The Star” in 2017. “Doctor Dolittle’s ability to speak to animals has made him every generation’s favorite ambassador between the human and animal worlds,” said Reckart. “We are excited to introduce him to a new generation of families, through an adventure into the wild full of thrills, humor, and heart, that reminds us the world is full of discoveries yet to be made.” The screenplay is written by family film writers Cal Brunker and Bob Barlen, whose credits include the “PAW Patrol” movies. Christian McGuigan and Cooper Waterman will executive produce the film, with Saxton Washburn producing for Sycamore. In addition to the film, Sycamore Studios is set to develop a broader franchise expansion around “Doctor Dolittle: King of the Wild,” including graphic novels, gaming, and location-based entertainment partnerships spanning zoos, theme parks, and family attractions. Cooper Waterman, Sycamore’s Head of Production, said, “Doctor Dolittle is one of the great family characters of all time, and we believe the world is ready for a fresh, cinematic reintroduction to his imagination, humor, and heart. From day one, our ambition has been to build a film that honors the legacy of the property while creating something visually compelling and emotionally resonant for today’s global audience. We could not ask for a better partner than Reel FX to help bring that vision to life.” Reel FX Animation’s credits include “The Book of Life,” “Free Birds,” “Rumble,” “Back to the Outback,” “SCOOB!,” “The Monkey King,” “The Chosen Adventures,” and the 2025 film “The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.” “We are thrilled to collaborate with Sycamore Studios on this exciting new chapter for Doctor Dolittle,” said Steve O’Brien, CEO of Reel FX.
