Sen. Darline Graham (R-S.C.) on Monday broke with her brother, the late Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), over abolishing the filibuster three weeks after stepping in to finish the rest of his term.

“One of the first things I did was co-sponsor the SAVE America Act. As I said earlier, I’m willing to stay through recess to get it done. What’s up with recess anyway? Who gets a month off from work? I think we should stay up there and work and get it done,” Darline Graham said during the GOP Senate debate in Columbia, S.C.

“This is where I differ from my brother, getting rid of the filibuster to get this done. Because eventually the Democrats are going to get rid of it anyway,” she added, in reference to how Republicans should handle passing legislation to change voter registration requirements.

Earlier this year, Lindsey Graham said lawmakers could consider nuking the filibuster in the future but warned against it in the short term.

“Filibuster changes, I think, change the Senate. It may happen one day, but I don’t think it’s a good idea,” he added.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.), Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.), Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and others have strongly railed against abolishing the filibuster, although President Trump sees it as a pathway for approving the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act.

On Monday, Darline Graham said she is “100 percent behind” the president and that Trump has in turn embraced the political newcomer with open arms.

In early July, the president said he asked her to run for Senate for the “Good of our Nation.”

“I hope Darline does this, in that there would be nobody better to honor the legacy of her beloved brother, Lindsey,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

Graham has largely shied away from the press, and Monday’s debate was the first full show of her policy views since joining Congress.

Some have hammered her lack of political experience as an elected official, while others have shared that they expect her to carry on the hawkishness and foreign policy focus honed by her brother.

In her first campaign ad, Graham made it a priority to share her anti-abortion views and support for the ban of transgender athletes.
