Cross has been renewed for a third season.

Amazon announced the news on the same day that the second season finale released for Prime Video‘s hit thriller starring Aldis Hodge in the titular role of detective Alex Cross. Season three will have another eight episodes, with a release date to be announced at a future date.

Created by Ben Watkins, the series is based on characters created by James Patterson in his bestselling novel series. Season three will “continue to expand the high-stakes world of the iconic character, building on the show’s gripping storytelling and powerful performances,” per the streamer.

“From the beginning, Cross has captivated audiences with its layered characters, pulse-pounding suspense, and emotionally grounded storytelling,” said Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios. “Aldis has delivered a definitive portrayal of Alex Cross, anchoring the series with depth, intelligence, and heart. We’re thrilled to continue this journey with Ben, our collaborators at Paramount Television Studios, and the rest of the incredible cast to bring even more of James Patterson’s iconic world to our global Prime Video audience.”

Cross, produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Paramount Television Studios, is a hit for the streamer. The first season drew 40 million viewers globally in its first 20 days on Prime Video, ranking as the third most-watched premiere on the service in 2025. Cross also ranked in the Top 10 of all original series during the week of its season two premiere, per Nielsen.

Season two, which is now streaming all episodes, also stars Matthew Lillard, Jeanine Mason, and Wes Chatham, alongside returning stars Isaiah Mustafa, Alona Tal, Samantha Walkes, Juanita Jennings, Caleb Elijah, Melody Hurd and Johnny Ray Gill. The season followed billionaire business titan Lance Durand (Lillard) when he calls the FBI for protection after receiving a death threat — one that links him to the murder of a billionaire playboy. Detective Alex Cross and FBI Agent Kayla Craig (Tal) led a new joint mission to protect Durand and find the killer, who left behind gruesome clues. Meanwhile, John Sampson (Mustafa), Cross’ partner and longtime best friend, made an unexpected connection.

The second season ends in a major decision made by Cross that will affect his future as a detective in season three.

The Alex Cross character first appeared in a book by bestselling author Patterson more than 30 years ago. Patterson recently told THR that he has been delighted with the Prime series’ interpretation of his most beloved character. “The novels started a long time ago,“
Patterson said. “What I like about this series is that it’s more realistic about what happens with a cop in Washington these days. I love how Alex and Ben have made the character more complex, more conflicted.”

Season two is executive produced by Watkins, Craig Siebels, Patterson, Sam Ernst, Jim Dunn, Aiyana White, J. David Shanks, Owen Shiflett, Bill Robinson, Patrick Santa and Hodge.
