Could Alberta's vote on independence be Canada's Brexit moment? ClosePeople in the province of Alberta will vote on 19 October on whether they want to start the process of separating from the rest of Canada.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has called the upcoming referendum a "dangerous bluff", comparing it to the Brexit vote that saw the UK leave the European Union.
But supporters of Albertan independence believe that the oil-rich province has long been overlooked by decision-makers in Ottawa, the national capital, and that federal environmental policies have hindered its ability to develop its natural resources.
So, could Alberta really become its own country?
The BBC's Nadine Yousif takes us on a journey through Alberta to talk to both supporters and opponents of separation about their hopes for the country's future.
