Kyle Busch is set to be remembered on Sunday as the 2026 NASCAR season heads to North Carolina for the Coca-Cola 600 race.

Charlotte Motor Speedway has confirmed a tribute this weekend to honor Busch, who died suddenly this week. Details are still being finalized as to what the tribute will entail, but the late driver’s photo has been spotted on the jumbotron at the track. Speedway’s Vice President of Communications, Jonathan Coleman, meantime, says there will be an opportunity to “pay tribute to all that [Busch] meant to the sport,” while celebrating “Charlotte Motor Speedway’s winningest driver across all three major series.”

Kyle Busch Tribute at Coca-Cola 600

Held during Memorial Day weekend, the Coca-Cola 600 has always been one of the most poignant races on the NASCAR circuit, with patriotic displays and songs such as “Amazing Grace” and “Taps” performed in past years alongside the National Anthem. The pre-race ceremony regularly honors military members and their families, and officials will now use this weekend’s event to honor Busch as well. Also significant: every NASCAR Cup Series driver carries the name of a fallen service member on their car; this year, the drivers will remember one of their own.

Busch’s death was announced by NASCAR on Thursday. The driver had been preparing for the Coca-Cola 600 when his family suddenly announced that he had been hospitalized with a severe illness. Details of his illness or the cause of death have not been confirmed.

Busch was 24th in the NASCAR Cup Series standings this year and was attempting to win his second Coca-Cola 600 race after taking home the checkered flag in 2018.

Sales of Busch merch have soared in the wake of the driver’s death. Apparel and collectibles site, Fanatics, says this official team T-shirt is one of the most popular items on the site right now.

The Las Vegas native, nicknamed “Rowdy,” was one of the most prolific drivers in NASCAR history, as a two-time Nascar Cup Series champion, and the winningest driver in NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts and Craftsman Truck series history. Busch was 41.
