A riveting teaser trailer for Apple TV+’s remake of Cape Fear has been released.

The first footage, below, is from the streamer’s upcoming psychological thriller limited series starring Amy Adams, Patrick Wilson and Javier Bardem. The project counts among its executive producers Martin Scorsese (who directed the hit 1991 Cape Fear film) and Steven Spielberg (who produced the same project).

The official description: “A storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Adams) and Tom Bowden (Wilson) when Max Cady (Bardem), the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars, is let out of prison — and he wants vengeance.”

Cape Fear has a lengthy creative lineage, starting with John D. MacDonald’s 1957 novel The Executioners. The book was first adapted by Universal Pictures into a 1962 film titled Cape Fear starring Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum. Cape Fear was then remade by Scorsese and starred Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange and Robert De Niro.

The new version is from showrunner Nick Antosca (Antlers, Channel Zero), who produces alongside Alex Hedlund, Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey. Morten Tyldum directed the pilot and serves as an executive producer.

Cape Fear also stars Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Malia Pyles and CCH Pounder. The limited series consists of 10 episodes, with the first two premiering on Friday, June 5. Here is the trailer, which — at a time when so many trailers feel so similar — is rather masterfully put together.
