The former NBC Nightly News and MSNBC 11th Hour late night anchor is launching a video podcast for the streaming giant, called We’re Back! With Brian Williams.
The podcast will see Williams interview newsmakers, actors, musicians, journalists and other prominent figures “in relaxed, wide-ranging exchanges about their work, their lives, and the moment we’re living through,” the platform says.
“With scientists predicting that every American will have a podcast by 2030, I thought it was time to get in the game,” Williams said in a statement. “After 40 years in the news business, where an in-depth interview gets 4 minutes of airtime at best, I just want to have interesting conversations with creative, funny, smart, talented, and consequential people — like the shows we all grew up watching and listening to. Netflix is the perfect home.”
Williams, of course, worked at NBC for nearly three decades, including an 11 year run at NBC Nightly News that ended 2015 after exaggerations and falsehoods were found in some of his reporting, including reports from Iraq, and from New Orleans after it had been ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.
However, he moved to MSNBC not long after, where he created and led The 11th Hour, which remains a stalwart of that channel’s lineup (now called MS NOW, and soon to be anchored by Ali Velshi). He left the company at the end of 2021.
In 2024, he anchored a live election special for Amazon Prime Video, marking a return to TV news, though the Netflix podcast will mark a more regular cadence for the newsman.
The podcast will be executive produced by Jonathan Wald, who preciously worked with Williams at NBC and EPed the Amazon special. A release date is still TBD.
