At first, Brandy Norwood was a bit uncomfortable with being crowned the “Vocal Bible.” “The title disturbed me,” she says of the designation that both fans and generations of singers she inspired have given her. “The pressure of that is a lot. What does it mean?” But over the years, she explains, she’s come to understand its significance: “I think it’s just a description of study and how I approach music. I don’t know if that means that people study that. I don’t know. But it does feel good now. It’s validating and very, very nice and sweet.”
