Brandon Routh Storm Santos Brandon Routh, best known for portraying Superman in Superman Returns, has joined the cast of indie family drama Ethan Almighty – Ethan’s Law.
Sean Patrick Flanery, Selma Blair, and Trevor Donovan are already on the roll call for the feature that is due to begin in Kentucky starting late April. Tané McClure is directing the piece and also produces via her McClure Films, alongside producer Michelle Alexandria of Light Year Pictures.
The project tells the true story of Ethan, a dog who was left to die under a pile of blankets and was nursed back to life by Jeff Callaway, one of those that found him, and by vets at the Kentucky Humane Society. Callaway bonded with the canine and eventually adopted him.

Following that, Callaway, powered by the story of Ethan, then initiated a movement that culminated with the creation of Ethan’s Law, a landmark piece of legislation that redefined animal welfare in Kentucky. The producers have said the story will celebrate resilience, compassion, and the transformative power of kindness.
Flannery is playing Callaway.
Routh will play Greg Carlson, a veteran police officer defined by his calm authority and deeply rooted sense of justice. Per the producers, the character anchors the film’s emotional and moral stakes.
“Brandon brings a grounded strength and authenticity that aligns beautifully with the heart of the story,” said McClure in a statement. “His ability to connect to the role with complete honesty and emotional depth is impressive.”
Stated producer Alexandria, “Brandon is an actor audiences trust. He has this strength along with such warmth elevating the emotional core of the film.”
Executive producing are Michael Olsen (Motion Media Group), Todd Slater (Convoke Media), Stephanie Garvin, and Lisanne Canty (Hollywood Expansion Corporation).
Filming is set to take place in Bardstown, Kentucky, and in Frankfort at the Kentucky State Capitol, where elements of the story occurred.
Routh famously and fondly played Clark Kent/Superman in the 2006 comic book movie Superman Returns. He furthered his geek cred with a scene-stealing role in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and then by playing hero Ray Palmer in the long-running CW show DC’s Legends of Tomorrow. He is also one of the voice actors for Netflix’s upcoming Magic: The Gathering animated series.
Routh is repped by Innovative Artists and Stewart Strunk of Main Title Entertainment.
