Bonnaroo will not take place in 2027, the major music festival announced on Friday, saying the event needed a “much-needed year off” citing years of challenges the festival has undergone due to severe inclement weather.

This wasn’t an easy decision, and not one we take lightly, but in our hearts, we know this break will only make Bonnaroo better,” the festival said in an Instagram post. “We hope you’ll continue radiating positivity in your community throughout the year and thank you for loving this festival as much as we do.”

Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival Canceled Due to Weather

It’s been a challenging past several years for Bonnaroo. The 2020 and 2021 editions were canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and the 2025 festival was canceled after a day due to a storm. Day three of this year’s festival, meanwhile, faced delays due to severe weather as well.

”As you know, we spent a great deal of effort and money working to improve the campgrounds and Centeroo in the months leading into the 2026 festival,” Bonnaroo said in its announcement Friday. “That included improved drainage, 4.5 miles of new roadways and 135 acres of new grass, all which strengthened The Farm’s resiliency to Mother Nature. With limited time to recuperate from back-to-back years of storms, including the heavy rainstorm on Sunday this year, The Farm, particularly the main venue, needs a break to rest and recover.”

Bonnaroo is one of the most prominent music festivals in the United States, hosting its first edition back in 2002. Headliners have included Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Eminem among many others. This year’s headliners were Noah Kahan, the Strokes, Skrillex and Rüfüs Du Sol.
