When Bob Chapek assumed the helm of the Disney empire in February 2020 as Bob Iger’s personally picked successor, it felt like the well-earned pinnacle of decades of hard work at the Magic Kingdom.

But in less than three years, Chapek’s dream was destroyed: He was abruptly dismissed in November 2022, and Iger returned as CEO. In Chapek’s memoir “Behind the Castle Walls,” set to be released Sept. 29, he points to Iger as the “real reason” he was canned. Chapek claims Iger, who is mentioned 121 times in the 272-page book, simply couldn’t cede the crown.
