Jack Antonoff in the music video for Bleachers' 'The Van.' Alex Lockett Bleachers end up playing an impromptu house show in the new music video for “The Van,” the latest offering from the Jack Antonoff-led outfit’s upcoming LP, Everyone for Ten Minutes.
“The Van” sits solidly in that classic category of Bleachers songs in which Antonoff ruminates on his early days as a musician and leaving home for the first time. Over a steady drum groove and a heady mix of horns and harmonica, Antonoff recalls Wawa pitstops, gigs at Wayne Firehouse (an old underground venue in New Jersey), and a fateful tour that solidified his musical ambitions.
“So we drove back from the west with our new religion then,” Antonoff sings, “One-way tickets in heart and in hand/Said fuck anything in my way this is forever now/And then just like that everything changed.”
Rather than reflecting life on the road, the video for “The Van,” directed by Alex Lockett, takes a more rooted approach. It opens with Antonoff buzzing the hair off his head before joining the rest of Bleachers at an apartment practice space. The sounds of “The Van” have a Pied Piper-like effect on the people in the town, who gather outside the building before joining Bleachers in the room.
