A story of redemption is set to be the focus of filmmaker Sean McNamara‘s forthcoming movie that will feature a breakout star from one of the year’s buzziest media moments.

Mike Vogel (Scarpetta), Alexa PenaVega (Spy Kids), Dennis Haysbert (24) and Devon Franklin (Divorced Sistas) are set to lead the cast of McNamara’s drama Home. The movie began production this week in Vancouver and will shoot in April and May ahead of its planned Thanksgiving release.

Home centers on Johnny J (Vogel), a charming con man sentenced to community service. His path changes when he bonds with an immigrant child named Gustavo, and Johnny soon must risk everything to help protect the youngster and create a home for him.

McNamara, known for directing such films as Soul Surfer, The King’s Daughter and Reagan, helms Home from a script by Howie Klausner and Dutch Hofstetter Jr. Garrett Backstrom, David Brookwell, and Dutch Hofstetter Sr. serve as producers for Brookwell McNamara Entertainment.

The project is inspired by the life of George Müller, who was guided by his faith in caring for more than 10,000 orphans before his death in 1898.

Home is a story about redemption, belonging and the unexpected ways we find purpose through other people,” says McNamara. “At its core, it’s about protecting those who need it most and redefining what family really means.”
