Anya Taylor-Joy Joins Next ‘Lord of the Rings’ Movie

Anya Taylor‑Joy is the latest big name to join the next Lord of the Rings movie, The Hunt for Gollum.

Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum will be directed by Andy Serkis, who is reprising the role of Gollum.

The Hunt for Gollum takes place between The Hobbit trilogy and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, with Aragorn and Gandalf searching for Gollum to learn more information about Bilbo’s ring, the One Ring that threatens all of Middle-earth.

For the film, Ian McKellen will return as Gandalf, alongside Elijah Wood as Frodo, and Lee Pace as Thranduil. Taylor‑Joy joins an ensemble of new cast members for the franchise, including Kate Winslet as Marigol, Jamie Dornan as Strider and Leo Woodall as Halvard.

Taylor-Joy is set to play Seren, a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm and a trusted, lethal agent of King Thranduil (Pace). 

Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and Zane Weiner are producing. Ken Kamins, Serkis and Jonathan Cavendish of The Imaginarium are executive producing. Walsh and Boyens penned the screenplay, with Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou.

The Hunt for Gollum is set to hit theaters on Dec. 17, 2027 via Warner Bros. and New Line. 

Taylor‑Joy, repped by CAA, The Way Management and Felker Toczek, will next be seen in Apple TV+’s Lucky and, after that, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Three.

As for other Lord of the Rings projects, Stephen Colbert is writing a second film alongside Boyens and Peter McGee, under the working title The Lord of the RingsShadow of the Past. That movie will come after Hunt for Gollum and does not yet have a director attached.
