Adam Driver says “the ship has sailed” on him playing Kylo Ren in the Star Wars franchise.

During Wednesday’s episode of The Rich Eisen Show, Driver was asked whether he thinks he’s done playing the character, to which the actor quickly responded, “Yeah. It’s over.”

“No more Star Wars,” he said, before adding, “We tried to do one more. But they were like, ‘No, he’s dead.’”

Driver was referring to The Hunt for Ben Solo, a proposed standalone film centered on his character that Disney ultimately rejected. The actor revealed last year that he had been working on the project with filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, who was set to direct.

“We worked on it for a few years, really and earnestly for two years,” Driver said during Wednesday’s interview. “We got a script together that was really good with Scott Burns and Rebecca Blunt and Soderbergh and I, and we all worked on it. It was really cool, but I don’t get to decide.”

In October 2025, the Girls star made headlines when he revealed that Disney had turned down the proposed film, which would have followed Ben Solo after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

“I always was interested in doing another Star Wars,” Driver said at the time. “We presented the script to Lucasfilm. They loved the idea. They totally understood our angle and why we were doing it.”

However, when the project was presented to Disney executives Bob Iger and Alan Bergman, the idea was rejected.

“We took it to Bob Iger and Alan Bergman and they said no. They didn’t see how Ben Solo was alive. And that was that,” he said.

During Wednesday’s interview, Driver was asked whether he would be interested in returning if someone wanted to resurrect the project.

“If they wanted to, fine. But it’s not our call,” he said. “I think the ship has sailed, though.”

While Driver doesn’t expect to return to the galaxy far, far away, he also praised the fan response to the proposed film, which included campaigns urging Disney to reconsider.

“The fans’ response to it, though, was pretty incredible,” he said, adding that he didn’t expect people to put up billboards or fly planes over Disney to show their support. “That was pretty cool.”

Up next for Driver, he stars in Paper Tiger alongside Scarlett Johansson and Miles Teller, which is set to release in theaters Nov. 13. He is also expected to begin working on Michael Mann’s Heat 2 next month and in August, it was announced as playing Mister Sinister in the forthcoming X-Men reboot.
