A majority of Americans disapprove of President Trump’s job performance, according to a new poll.
In The Economist/YouGov poll released Tuesday, 36 percent of respondents said they either “strongly” or “somewhat” approve of the way the president is handling his job, while 60 percent said they either “strongly” or “somewhat” disapprove. Four percent said they were unsure about Trump’s job performance.
The president’s low job approval in the poll comes amid rough political territory for the president and his party as the November midterms inch closer. Trump and the GOP are staring down an unpopular war in Iran, concerns about the economy, frustration over the administration’s immigration agenda and recent Democratic electoral victories.
In a polling average from Decision Desk HQ, the president’s approval rating was sitting at 40.80 percent as of Wednesday afternoon, with his disapproval rating at 56.60 percent.
Trump has also faced similar concerns around his age that his predecessor, former President Biden, dealt with in the White House.
The poll found that 52 percent of respondents said the president is “too old” to hold his job, while 36 percent said he is not too old and 11 percent were unsure.
The Economist/YouGov poll took place from July 17-20, featuring 1,602 respondents and a margin of error of 3.3 percent.
