Kill the Justice League’ release window, delay, trailer, and gameplay

After countless leaks, rumors, fan-prodding, and false starts, Rocksteady Studios confirmed in 2020 that its next video game would be Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Initially, a photo of Superman in the Suicide Squad’s crosshairs was tweeted by Rocksteady on August 7, 2020. But beyond that, multiple trailers and images have been shown off, so we know a fair bit about the heroic reasons why the Suicide Squad comes to target the Justice League. Here’s everything we know about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

When is the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League release window?

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was originally supposed to launch in 2022, but Creative Director Sefton Hill announced on Twitter in March 2022 that the game was delayed until spring 2023. He didn’t offer much in the way of explanation, but a good delayed game is always better than a flawed rushed game.

“We’ve made the difficult decision to delay Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League to Spring 2023,” he wrote. “I know a delay is frustrating but that time is going into making the best game we can. I look forward to bringing the chaos to Metropolis together. Thanks for your patience.”

That puts the new release window somewhere between Monday, March 20 and Wednesday, June 21 (the dates of spring in 2023). Although the game will most likely be released on a Friday within that window.

What are the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League platforms?

You’ll be able to play Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. It doesn’t appear like it will be launching for PS4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch.

Is there a Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League trailer?

Yes! There’s a small cinematic trailer available that you can watch below, along with a few others that have been released in the past two years or so.

From the trailer, we can see that Brainiac has taken over Metropolis. The Suicide Squad, consisting of King Shark, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang were sent by Amanda Waller to defeat the Justice League. Given Metropolis’ current disarray and the boy scout’s merciless attack, it can be assumed that Superman and the other members of the Justice League have been taken over by Brainiac. Now it’s up to the Suicide Squad to save the day.

In October 2021, DC revealed a new story trailer, showing off the cast, with some humor sprinkled throughout. The Suicide Squad is way more over-the-top than your typical band of heroes, and that shines through in the latest trailer.

In it, we get to see The Flash, Green Lantern, Superman, and Penguin, and other supporting characters, but interestingly, there was no sign of Batman. Presumably, Batman will be in the game — Warner Bros. and Rockstead are likely holding his reveal for a later date.

What is the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League gameplay like?

Official gameplay footage hasn’t been shown to the public, but we do have a general idea of how this game will play. Following the trailer reveal, Rocksteady creative director Sefton Hill answered some questions about the game, including those related to gameplay.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will be a four-player co-op shooter. You can either play it with friends or with AI. If you do play with AI, you’ll be able to seamlessly switch between characters. Hill didn’t specify if it would be a first or third-person shooter. All characters will also have access to melee abilities.

Much of the game seems to take place in Metropolis.

Are there any Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League leaks?

There are numerous alleged leaks for Rocksteady’s Arkham Knight follow-up. There’s a chance that none of these turn out to be true, but many of them tie in nicely to the information already announced about Rocksteady’s latest project.

In April 2019, a Warner Bros. Marketing email leaked onto ResetEra regarding Rocksteady’s upcoming game, which was implied to be Suicide Squad. Notably, this called the game a “Games as a Service” title, meaning it would have multiplayer and regular updates similar to games like Marvel’s Avengers and Destiny.

The leak stated that multiple cities would be available like Gotham and Star City. It added that the game was once set to be announced on June 4, 2019 and players that pre-ordered would have early access to a raid. If everything else is the same, we could see a raid system in Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad.

The current marketing has yet to confirm if this will, in fact, be a live service game.

According to a 4chan leak, we have a possible synopsis about Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League:

Suicide Squad Kills the Justice League by Rocksteady Studios. Amanda Waller goes to war with the Justice League when Batman attempts to shut her down over the creation of Project Cadmus. The playable characters that are known thus far are listed in the leak, giving it some credibility. However, they’re also very standard Suicide Squad characters. It’s fairly possible the ‘leaker’ made an educated guess as to what the game could include.
