Even When Biden Gets It Right He Gets It Wrong

The president made another COVID speech full of badgering and misinformation.

All I want for Christmas is [for] you [to leave me alone]. Those might be the more fitting 2021 lyrics to Mariah Carey’s 1994 hit given that Joe Biden and his fellow Democrats just can’t seem to, as another Christmastime song says, Let it go.

That notwithstanding, Biden actually got some key things right in his speech yesterday. That’s not a typo. He promised that we are “absolutely” not headed toward more lockdowns. He urged schools to stay open and noted that “children have only rarely been impacted by serious COVID cases.” He said, “We should all be concerned about Omicron but not panicked.” He’s right that vaccination reduces the risk of infection and, more importantly, the severity of that infection. But he also finally admitted that even the vaccinated can contract and spread COVID, which is a welcome change from his past denials of reality and science. In what might be the biggest Christmas miracle of all, he even agreed with Donald Trump on getting a booster shot and praised “the prior administration” for its efforts to deliver vaccines.

In short, Biden came pretty close to tacitly acknowledging that we’re going to have to learn to live with COVID.

Unfortunately, Biden the messenger is deeply flawed, and his message was infused with his all-too-typical hectoring, vilification, and misinformation. He blamed the unvaccinated, and he scolded conservative media for being “purveyors of lies and misinformation,” by which he means not loyally parroting his party’s propaganda the way Big Media does.

Responding to the speech, Trump pointed to one of the key scientific factors that Biden continues to ignore, particularly with mandating the vaccine for millions of Americans, and that’s natural immunity. “I think that it’s really a question of tone,” Trump said. “It’s a question of trust, and hopefully, the people that have had COVID, hopefully they will be given credit for that.”

In October 2020, Trump contracted COVID, but he still chose to be vaccinated, as many others have. “You have to embrace it,” he said yesterday. “You don’t have to do it, and there can’t be mandates and all those things, but you have to embrace it.”

Prior infection confers protection similar to vaccination, and it should be a perfectly valid reason for people to choose not to be vaccinated. Biden’s mandates won’t allow that, however, and all the scientific experts making the rounds in mainstream media utterly ignore it when browbeating everyone to get the jab regardless. Biden didn’t ever use the word “mandate,” no doubt because of the wide unpopularity of his actions, but he did tout his “rule” for employers with 100 or more workers as the best way to “keep workers safe” and “help keep businesses open.”

No word on the employees who will lose their jobs over his rule, or why he changed his mind about having the authority to issue such a mandate after insisting for months that he didn’t.

He did, however, proclaim that getting vaccinated is “your patriotic duty.”

Biden also didn’t say a word about treatments for those who have COVID, and that’s where most of the censorship happens on social media. You’re not allowed to talk about such things.

Furthermore, Biden badgered every American to keep wearing a mask, vaccinated or not. The powers that be keep telling us masks work, but we also keep seeing surging cases in areas where virtually everyone is wearing a mask. We almost don’t need the actual scientific studies repeatedly showing that masks don’t make much of a difference when we can look at spiking cases in heavily masked blue states.

Before COVID was thoroughly politicized, the all-knowing Dr. Anthony Fauci said, “The typical mask you buy in the drug store is not really effective in keeping out virus.” And, “There’s no reason to be walking around with a mask.”

Now he says people will probably need to wear them forever.

On a final note, we’ll turn to Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick for his response to Biden’s “patriotic duty” declaration. “What isn’t patriotic, Mr. President, is not securing the border,” Patrick said. “What isn’t patriotic is running up inflation. … What isn’t patriotic is turning your back on America and the principles and values that our country was founded on.”

Along with reminding us all that the reason for this season is the hope and salvation brought by Jesus Christ, Patrick argued, “This president has lost the country — he has lost the country — and he will never get it back because he is a man of no hope.” Nevertheless, Patrick promised, “[Biden] will not take [Christmas hope] away from us because we are a nation built on the word of God, and we have hope.” Indeed we do.
